Banyan Tree Lighting
Saturday December 2 @ 10:00 am - Sunday December 3 @ 4:00 pm
Probably the most famous landmark in Lahaina the Banyan Tree was planted in 1873 by Sheriff Smith to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first Missionary. The tree was brought from India, and was only 8′ high at the time of planting. It now has a dozen main trunks, and spreads over the better part of an acre.
As keeping with tradition, Saturday Lahaina’s historic Banyan Tree will be lit with at 6:30pm with 6500 colored Christmas lights for the entire holiday season, December 2017.
Keiki activities will kick off at noon with the arrival of Santa at the North Pole. Other activities include cookie decorating, face painting and Christmas crafts. In addition the LahainaTown Action Committee requests one canned or non perishable food item for admission to the “North Pole” winter wonderland.
Keiki are invited to come out and meet Banyan Snowman arriving at 4pm. He is donated and carved on site by Maui Ice Company. Parents bring your cameras for this great photo opportunity.
Join in the fun with this Lahaina island-style event with a holiday arts and crafts fair along with a variety of local musicians. Including Lahainaluna High School Band for the actual lighting. Music beginning at 9am on Saturday and continuing on Sunday at 9am
This year we have a very special guest who will be lighting the tree at 6:30pm. Special thanks to the Pioneer Inn and the Wharf Cinema Center that simultaneous light their properties holiday lights with the Banyan Tree. The Outlets of Maui are the entertainment sponsor for our holiday lighting.
